Gabriella Balázs, or as we call her, Gabi has been in charge of the design of the CANnual Report since 2018, and recently she has been awarded the Golden Drawing Pin, a prestigious Hungarian design award for her excellent work on weCAN’s yearly publication. Let us introduce her to you!
Gabi is a designer and illustrator; she obtained her degree at Hungarian design school KREA in 2009. As long as she can remember, Gabi has always loved colours: as a child she asked for colour pencils for every occasion, and she says that her love for them never faded. You can see it for yourself in the CANnual Report 2022 :)
During her school years at KREA, she started to work at Café Design creative agency, where she had the chance to try out different fields of design, such as branding, package design, DTP and illustration, all on various brands.
After giving birth, she arrived at Café Communications, where she first worked on the CANnual Report in 2017. Her task was to rethink the publication design, and that is when she recognised the importance of a unique appearance as a sort of mirror to the agency’s – and her – competence, and also to serve as inspiration for other agencies. She took on the task of elevating the CANnual Report design year after year, always outdoing herself in this.
Gabi admits that’s why she loves working on the report: she is excited each year to learn about the new design challenge, to incorporate the freshest ideas and try to outperform herself with the new design. She says that over these years, the report has become a part of her, and leaves her heart in it, happily calling it a love project.
We are eternally grateful to Gabi for her endless work in this, for bringing precision and enthusiasm to the table. We are proud of her, her work, and we see this award as a well-deserved recognition. Congratulations!
